Bayreuther Klavierfestival – The art of transcription.
2018-08-15, 07:30 PM
For his anticipated return to Bayreuth, Mr Bartoli pays homage to the art of piano transcription through the centuries. The programme includes Busoni’s monumental rendition of Bach’s Chaconne in d minor BWV 1004, Ottorino Respighi’s orchestral reworking of Frescobaldi’s Passacaglia and Paul Pabst’s fantastic Concert Paraphrase Tchajkovskij’s Opera Eugene Onegin Op.81a, a work wich was once in the active repertoire of such giants as Sergei Rachmaninov and Shura Cherkassky. In the second half, Bartoli pays homage to local hero Richard Wagner, with the World Premiere performance of David Plylar’s concert transcription of the Prelude from Tristan un Isolde. The concert ends with David Plylar’s brand new Fantasy-Paraphrase on Giacomo Puccini’s Il Tabarro, an important work commissioned by the Puccini Festival Foundation and dedicated to Bartoli.
